Take the Reins is an education initiative where local schools pair with the Kentucky Equine Humane Center to foster a horse & supplement core curriculum.
Take the Reins is a new initiative introduced by the Kentucky Equine Humane Center. This project pairs local elementary schools with The Center, creating a program that supplements core curriculum while also enhancing learning outcomes such as responsibility, care, and the importance of giving back. Each school participating in the Take the Reins program will “foster” a horse from The Center for one school year. The fostered horse will serve as the cornerstone for the school’s curriculum and engagement with The Center.
We are proud to introduce Julius Marks Elementary as our pilot school for the program this year. This 2016-2017 school year Take The Reins program is presented by Alltech.
Many thanks to Alltech for their video production of Take The Reins field trip to Alltech and the Kentucky Equine Humane Center! At Altech, Julius Marks Elementary students learned about nutrition, got to weigh a horse and hay, and at KyEHC, they got to meet Patrick's Bullseye, the horse that they are supporting through this program!
